Everything you need to choose your Indian bridal jewellery with confidence
Choosing your wedding jewellery is one of the most personal parts of planning an Indian or Asian wedding. This guide covers what a bridal set includes, which styles suit each function, how to match jewellery to your outfit and what to budget. It comes from years of helping brides and their families at our family run boutiques in London (North Harrow), Leicester and Birmingham, since 2010.
What does an Indian bridal jewellery set include?
A full bridal look is usually built around a statement necklace, with matching pieces chosen to complete it. Most brides wear:
- A bridal necklace set: often a choker, a long haar, or both layered together, with matching earrings.
- Earrings: jhumkas, chandbalis or statement drops, sometimes with ear chains (sahare) for extra support.
- Head jewellery: a maang tikka, matha patti or passa, depending on your hairstyle and tradition.
- Bangles and kadas: stacked to match your outfit colours, often alongside wedding chooda.
- Hand and finger pieces: haath phool and statement rings.
- Nose ring (nath): optional, but a beautiful finishing touch for many brides.
You do not need every piece. Our team will help you decide what suits your outfit, face shape and hairstyle so the whole look feels balanced.
Jewellery for each wedding function
Most Indian weddings have several events, and each one suits a different level of jewellery.
Mehndi and haldi
Colourful semi precious stone sets, floral styles and statement earrings that will not get in the way.
Sangeet and garba
You will be dancing, so choose comfortable pieces such as CZ or American diamond earrings and a lighter necklace.
The wedding day
Your heaviest, most traditional look. Kundan, polki or temple jewellery in a full layered set is a classic choice.
Reception
CZ and American diamond sets pair beautifully with gowns, sarees and contemporary lehengas.
Kundan, polki, CZ or temple: which style suits you?
Kundan
Glass stones set in gold tone foil, rich and regal. The most popular choice for the main wedding day.
Polki
Uncut stone look with a softer, vintage shine. Perfect for brides who love a heritage feel.
CZ and American diamond
Bright, crisp sparkle that photographs beautifully. Ideal for receptions, sangeets and modern brides.
Temple
Inspired by South Indian designs, featuring deities and traditional motifs, often in an antique gold finish.
Antique
A matte, oxidised gold tone that suits rich silks and deep colours.
Semi precious stone
Emerald, ruby and pearl tones that add colour to lighter functions.
How to match jewellery to your outfit
The best way to choose bridal jewellery is to see it with your outfit. Keep these simple rules in mind:
- Neckline first: high necklines suit long haars and statement earrings, while deep or sweetheart necklines suit chokers and layered sets.
- Match the metal tone to the embroidery: gold zari suits gold tone kundan and polki, while silver or pastel work often suits CZ.
- Pick one hero piece: if your outfit is heavily embroidered, let either the necklace or the earrings lead, not both.
- Pull colours from your outfit: stones and bangles in the same shades tie the whole look together.
Bring your outfit with you. Our stores have changing rooms, so you can try on your lehenga, saree or dress and match jewellery to it in person. Our team specialises in outfit matching and will put together options for you.
Why choose high-end imitation bridal jewellery?
All of our jewellery is high-end gold plated imitation and costume jewellery. It gives you the look of heritage gold and stone jewellery at a fraction of the price, which means you can have a different look for every function instead of one expensive set. It is also lighter to wear on long wedding days and far less stressful to travel with.
How much does Indian bridal jewellery cost?
We also have a large range of non-bridal jewellery below that price for mehndi, sangeet, reception and guests, so you can build a full wedding wardrobe within your budget.
When should you start shopping for bridal jewellery?
The best time is once your outfit is back and fitted, so you can try everything on together in store and see the full look.
Outfit arriving later, unfitted, or only a fabric swatch? Visit us no later than two months before the wedding. That gives us time to order anything additional or customise pieces for you.
Jewellery for mums, sisters, bridesmaids and guests
We do not only dress brides. Many of our customers shop for the whole family, from the mother of the bride to sisters, bridesmaids and wedding guests. Coordinating jewellery across the bridal party creates beautiful photos, and our range includes elegant sets, earrings, bangles, rings and head accessories at every price point.
How to care for imitation jewellery
- Put jewellery on last, after perfume, hairspray and makeup.
- Keep it away from water and moisture.
- Wipe gently with a soft dry cloth after wearing.
- Store each piece separately in its box or a soft pouch so stones do not scratch.
